This document concerns the development of alcohol prevention polfcies in federal countries, with particular attention to initiatfves that can be taken at the intexmediate level of government to support national alcohol policy and local actions to prevent alcohol-related problems. Particular attention is placed on variations among federal countries with regard to the division of authority in alcohol policy development, opportunities for the development of prevention policies in federal systems and issues regarding the coordination of alcohol prevention policy.
