In 2003, the coastal population was greatest in the Northeast and Pacific regions, followed by the Great Lakes, Gulf of Mexico, and finally the Southeast. Figure 1 shows the regional distribution of coastal population in 2003. Figure 2 shows the distribution of this population on a county basis.
