Excerpt: The exact date when the feeling of the pulse to test the circulation of the blood through the arteries originated in China is unknown. It is, however, recorded in the Lieh Kuo Chih ... that a man name Ch'in Yuen-jen ... who lived in the 5th cent. B.C., received from and old man name Ch'ang Shang-chun ... a certain drug which he was instructed to take for thirty consecutive days, and on the expiry of which he was able the understand the Nature of Things.
